Day 1 will include a session on reading and reading promotion featuring Miha Kovacs, who was deeply involved in launching the Ljubljana Manifesto on higher-level reading at Frankfurt Book Fair in 2023. That manifesto and the research behind it shows that reading long-form writing is an essential skill that enables us to deal with complex ideas. Joining Miha will be CERLALC’s Director, Margarita Cuéllar Barona, who will be involved in the Latin American project. Last but not least, Kristenn Einarsson, will talk about the European project Democracy Depends on Reading, building on a session at Frankfurt Book Fair.
Day 2 will include a session on the freedom to read as part of the trinity of freedoms (alongside the freedom of expression and the freedom to publish) building also on a session in day 1 on the freedom to publish in education where curricula are affected and book bans of different types increasing in a number of different markets.
With just 85 days to go until the Congress, It is not too late to reserve your place and contribute to how publishing around the world can contribute to increasing literacy rates, driving reading for pleasure, and supporting democracies around the world.
