In Texas, the funding measure totaled $1.5 billion for instructional materials such as textbooks and digital learning programs. The appropriation is the single largest funding measure ever approved for instructional materials in the USA. In Florida, the state legislature approved $225 million in funds for instructional materials. Meanwhile, in California the state legislature approved a block grant of $3.1 million designed to support implementation of the new “Common Core State Standards” in reading and mathematics. Schools can use the $3.1 billion to purchase of instructional materials, computers and/or teacher training programs.

The funding increases reflect improved economic conditions in many of the states as well as a trend toward purchasing instructional materials aligned to new academic standards.
