Clean water is an essential part of our daily lives. We all need safe water to drink, cook, and clean ourselves. Many of you took a hot shower last night, went to a toilet that flushes with water or cooked pasta or rice with clean water while drinking from the tap. Yet, many people around the world don’t have access to clean water and ways to deal safely with human waste. This can be for many different reasons. For example, not all cities and villages have a working sewage system or wastewater treatments. This has severe consequences, as germs and bacteria spread more easily without proper sanitary and hygienic practices, making many people sick and unable to attend work or school.

Our new reading list for SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation teaches us about the importance of clean water, the water cycle, gives us tips on how to save water, and contains inspirational stories of how people have helped each other gain access to clean water. We hope the stories will inspire you to take action for all children to have access to clean water and toilets. Don’t forget to turn off the tap!

These books highlight the importance of empowering each other and teaches children how they can help make this world an equal and better place for everyone.
