The IPA’s representatives on the ABC board are former IPA President, Karine Pansa, current co-Chair of the Accessibility sub-committee of the IPA’s Inclusive Publishing and Literacy Committee, Laura Brady, and IPA Secretary General, José Borghino.  One of the main topics of discussion during this latest board meeting was the venue and timing of the 2026 ‘Accessible Publishing Awards’ which will take place during the Bologna Children’s Book Fair and will consequently have a focus on accessibility in children’s publishing. A direct result of the implementation of the Marrakesh Treaty in 2013, ABC is a public-private initiative led by WIPO, which brings together organizations representing people with print disabilities such as the World Blind Union (WBU); libraries for the blind; standards bodies; andorganizations representing authors (International Authors Forum), collective management organizations (International Federation of Reproduction Rights Organizations) as well as the IPA representing publishers. Its goal is to increase the number of books worldwide in accessible formats and to make them available to people who are blind, have low vision or are otherwise print disabled.
