Delegates came from national Reproduction Rights Organisations (RROs) from all around the world plus representatives of authors’ and publishers’ organisations. The IPA is represented on the 12-member IFRRO Board by Flávia Alves Bravin, a Brazilian publisher of 25 years’ experience who is the Head of Saber Education, which is part of one of the biggest education publishers in the world: Cogna.

Ms Alves Bravin participated in the IFRRO AGM along with IPA Secretary, José Borghino, who is on the IFRRO Membership and PLR Committees.

The Reykjavík meeting was also significant as IFRRO welcomed its new CEO, Anita Huss-Ekerhult, who recently replaced Caroline Morgan. Morgan was touchingly remembered during the meeting and will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

The opening speaker at the AGM was Iceland’s President Guðni Jóhannesson, a former academic and author, who gave an insightful yet hilarious speech, which included the observation that ‘per capita was Iceland’s best friend.’

The keynote address was delivered by Peter Schoppert, who is not only a director of the National University of Singapore Press, but also a member of the IPA’s Copyright Policy Working Group (CPWG). His address was a fascinating insight into generative AI and its potential implications for creators, rightsholders, and copyright.

The host for next year’s AGM was announced as Quebec City.
