Kristenn Einarsson, Chair of the IPA’s Freedom to Publish Committee said: Congratulations to those in Kuwait who have successfully encouraged this change in favour of the freedom to publish. This is an important step forward and I hope that more positive changes will follow.
The ArabLit report cites Kuwaiti Parliament observers who note that the change will mean that any challenge to the publication of a book must now be made in a court of law.
The IPA’s Freedom to Publish Committee will continue to monitor developments in Kuwait and looks forward to more reforms that bolster freedom to publish.
