In January 2026, the Publishers Association launched a new Publishing Inclusion Pledge. This initiative recognises that different perspectives strengthen the publishing sector and aims to help publishers of all sectors, sizes, and specialisms to take meaningful action to support inclusion in all its forms.

According to the Publishers Association, the publishing sector needs to reaffirm its commitment to creating a more inclusive publishing industry, and the pledge serves this goal. Following a period of consultation with Publishers Association members and stakeholders, the Publishing Inclusion Pledge was created, highlighting equity, inclusion, and belonging as “essential principles guiding the UK publishing sector”.

Dan Conway, CEO of the Publishers Association, said: “At this precise time it feels crucial to re-state our responsibility as leaders to create a publishing industry that supports inclusion in all its forms. Diverse perspectives bring us strength, and I am proud that the Publishers Association is leading this important work and that we have received so much engagement with the pledge from publishers. Working together we will make progress and put ourselves in the best position to produce content that speaks to our readers and society.”

IPA supports this initiative led by the Publishers Association and encourages publishers and other organisations in the publishing sector to sign up to, or endorse, the pledge in 2026. To know more about this initiative, access here
