CMO Toolkit
First published in 2018, WIPO has published an updated version of its Good Practice Toolkit for Collective Management Organizations (CMOs) (commonly known as the CMO Toolkit) following a round of consultations in 2024. The Toolkit brings together examples of legislation, regulation and codes of conduct in the area of collective management from around the world. World IP Day
The 26 April marks World IP Day which is managed by WIPO. This year they have chosen the theme of IP and Music: Feel the beat of IP.
The World IP Day website is now available in eight languages with a Social Media Kit (#WorldIPDay) and events calendar coming soon. Activities planned for 2025 include a Youth Video Competition and the promotion of quotes from musicians.
WIPO Global Awards
Nominations for the WIPO Global Awards are now open until 31 March. The Awards, launched in 2022, are for Start-ups or SMEs with up to 300 employees and an innovative creation, product, or service linked to IP rights (with at least one registered IP right or pending application and proven commercial traction). Winners benefit from over $15,000 worth of prizes includeing 25 hour of personalised mentorship and free access to advanced analytic tools to enhance R&D.
Committees
WIPO’s committee schedule is in full swing with relevant committees for IPA coming up including the Advisory Committee on Enforcement (ACE, 4-6 February), the Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR, 7-11 April), and the Committee on Development and IP (CDIP, 5-9 May). IPA will be reporting from SCCR.
