How many propositions do you receive? How do you select them?
Lots, like all publishers. Several a week. I have a big backlog (we’re a tiny team). Again, like every other publisher.
I am not bound by collections or editorial policy. My choice can be very wide, in the knowledge that it’s the reader ultimately who decides whether we publish the book. So I make a selection based on the quality of the drawings, the credibility of the scenario, the author’s capacity to see the project through to completion, etc. I try not to involve my personal tastes, and I try to vary the projects. But the prerequisite is quality. I systematically eliminate amateurish or sketchy projects.
