The 5th edition of the World Expression Forum (WEXFO) has announced its theme: “The Freedom to Disagree”. From criminalized dissent and legal intimidation to AI‑driven disinformation, cultural polarization, and the marginalization of moderates, the conference places tension and disagreement at the center, as a way of engaging with complex issues, rather than aiming for consensus.

Ingunn Trosholmen, CEO of WEXFO, stated: “You will see people close to power meet people punished by it, experienced voices meet first‑time protesters, bridge‑builders meet movement leaders. These are people who do not necessarily agree – but who are willing to stay in the room. […] Disagreement is not the problem. The challenge is when it triggers fear or defensiveness, and we stop listening – when people close off, withdraw, or are pushed out of the public sphere.”

In addition to the talks, debates and workshops, the shortlist for the IPA’s 2026 Voltaire Prize will be announced at WEXFO. The IPA is also partnering with WEXFO to promote workshops at the conference.
