But these aren’t just discussions for world leaders in New York, publishers can also play their part and I was delighted to see the IPA partner again with the UN on announcing its 1000 Actions Campaign leading up to the 34th International Publishers Congress in Guadalajara, Mexico from 3-6 December 2024.

That 1000 Actions initiative has already got off to a great start with publishers and their associations already submitting 140 Actions to the campaign. All actions, big and small are welcome. You can find out more here

The Congress will welcome author and UN Under-Secretary-General Melissa Fleming to deliver a keynote on days 2 ahead of 3 quick-fire sessions focused on different aspects of the SDGs.

The first will see climatologist Ruth Cerezo Mota in discussion with Dr. Michiel Kolman about how publishers can drive climate action. The second will see author and translator Lawrence Schimel talk to Rachel Martin about storytelling around the climate and the SDGs. The final session will see Sisel Gelman talk to James Taylor about how Gen-Z see the future of publishing.

With just 78 days to go until the Congress, It is not too late to reserve your place and contribute to how publishing around the world can contribute to sustainable development goals.
