In addition to suspended prison sentences, the court ordered the 9 defendants pay compensatory damages of € 10,000 for each publisher and the SNE.
The SNE noted that between May 2010 and June 2013, more than 23,942 books were pirated and hightlighted the ongoing importance of fighting counterfeiting as part of its mission to defend the interests of an entire profession. “Piracy poses a threat to all players in the book ecosystem.”
