The ICEVI-WBU Global Declaration calls on governments, education systems, organisations, and communities to recognize braille literacy as a fundamental human right and an essential part of inclusive education. It was officially launched during the 19th Session of the United Nations Conference of State Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CoSP19), held in New York from 9 to 11 June, 2026.
Since then, the following organisations have officially supported the Declaration:

- The European Blind Union (EBU)
- Grupo Girassol Brazil
- The International Authors Forum (IAF)
- The International Federation of Reproduction Rights Organisations (IFRRO)
- The International Publishers Association (IPA)
- Sao Mai Center for the Blind, Vietnam (SMCB)
- Tibi- The Norwegian Library for Accessible Literature
