On 23 April, the city Strasbourg in France officially became UNESCO 2024 World Book Capital City (WBCC), succeeding 2023 WBCC, Accra, in Ghana. Under the theme of “Read our World”, it will celebrate books and reading during one year through more than 1,000 events and activities.
IPA's Copyright Committee has endorsed a position on generative AI & copyright, which had been developed by the IPA's Copyright Policy Working Group. The position reaffirms that the existing legal framework is clear. Collecting, handling, storing, and copying works of authorship to train AI models implicates the exclusive rights of authors, which cannot be ignored. Generative AI companies must license works that they do not own -and seek to use for their gain,- in the manner directed by the rightsholder.
