At the Festival du Livre de Paris, the International Publishers Association (IPA) has announced six publishers from Algeria, Belarus, Lebanon, Russia and the USA as the shortlist for the association’s Freedom to Publish prize, the Prix Voltaire.
On day three of the London Book Fair, IPA President, Gvantsa Jobava and UN Publications Chief, Mary Glenn looked at the achievements of publishers so far in supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the broader importance of publishers in fighting dis- and misinformation.
IPA's French member, the Syndicat national de l’édition (SNE – French Publishers’ Association), along with the Société des Gens de Lettres (SGDL – French Society of Writers) and the Syndicat national des auteurs et des compositeurs (SNAC – French Authors’ and Compositors’ Association) are taking Meta to Court (3rd chamber of the Paris Judicial Court) for the extensive use of copyrighted literary works, without their authors' and publishers' consent, to train its generative AI model.
